Board Positions

 

President 

Oversee the board by creating clear goals for the year with focus on Israel advocacy, tzedek, and Jewish education. Additionally, the President encourages leadership within the entire Jewish community while assisting the board. The President acts as the liaison between the Hillel staff and the student board, the President of the Hillel Student Organization, and the face of the UConn Hillel Foundation to the rest of the Jewish community on campus.

 

Executive Vice President

Assist the President by attending meetings and being present when the President is unavailable. Meet consistently with board members to facilitate goal setting, agenda building, and meeting ones goals. Meetings should take place at least once four times per month, more as necessary. Additional responsibilities include serving as leadership to the facility as well as the student body.

 

VP of Tzedek

Enhance students lives on campus by infusing their lives with Judaism and community service. 

 

VP of FYSH (First Year Student of Hillel)

Create a "home away from home" for incoming freshmen through Hillel and help them identify and connect with the Jewish community on campus. The VP is responsible for pairing freshmen with current college students and create engaging fun events for the pairings to attend to help foster a family bond. Three events per semester will be created by VP of Fysh, one per month are organized by Family Leaders, and mentors are encouraged to keep constant contact with their mentees. 

 

Programs responsible for:

  • three FYSH-wide events per semester
  • facilitating montly events within families
  • supporting mentor-mentee relationships


VP of Communications

Maintain social media sites (facebook and twitter) by creating updates and creative outreach campaigns. Responsibilities include creating flyers for Hillel programs and events requested by student leaders and staff, organizing a committee to complete flyers and print materials, and coordinating placement of flyers throughout campus (dorms, bus stops, and academic buildings). 

 

VP of Administrative Affairs

Maintain Hillel Student Organization status with student activities by attending SOLID training and sitting at the CFO for Hillel Student Organization. 

 

VP of Shabbat and Holidays

Create and sustain a vibrant community that encourages Jews throughout campus to want to attend Shabbat and Holidays at Hillel. Develop innovative themes for Shabbat. Collaborate with the Jewish Education Intern to empower student leadership and bring in community members to benefit the student population. The primary goal is to empower all students from the growing traditional community on campus as well as the students that have yet to come to Hillel.

 

Programs responsible for:

  • creating a committee to facilitate shabbat and Holiday set-up, greeting people as they come in, and clean up
  • establish creative themes for weekly shabbats 

 

VP of Greek Life

Create a sustainable relationship with each community from Greek life to create pride Jewish within the UConn community at large through Jewish Greek life programming.

 

Progrmas responsible for: 

  • monthly get togethers of Jewish Greek Life 

 

VP of Israel Affairs

Act as a liaison between Huskies for Israel, Hillel Student Organization, and Hillel Foundation by infusing Israel politics, culture, and social aspects into programming for the entire student body. Promote Israel Advocacy throughout campus by integrating education, social programming, and advocacy efforts.  

 

VP of Social Events

Acting liaison between Hillel Foundation staff and student board by coordinating programs for the student body that is not specific to one particular student group. Responsibilities include programming at least one major social high visibility event per semester integrating student leadership and staff resources. Support student board through and all groups through their programming by serving on committees as necessary.

 

Programs responsible for:

  • One major high visiblity social events on campus per semester  


VP of Engagement

Serving to connect new students to Hillel with returning students. Responsibilities include importing ‘new student’ cards into data base and researching who the best connection and mentor will be and facilitating that connection through personally connecting the match-ups. Introducing students to new students and groups that they may have interest in participating in.

 

Programs responsible for:

  • establishing a committee for tabling twice per month
  • establishing new and innovative was to engage the unengaged community  


VP of Alumni Affairs

Create a sustainable community for Jewish Alumni by organizing at least one event per semester specifically for the alumni community.Create a sustainable community for Jewish Alumni by organizing at least one event per semester specifically for the alumni community.

  • One major social event per semester 

Internships

 

Development

  • Work with the Executive Director on fundraising
  • Work with the Executive Director on Donor relations
  • Professional development opportunities in development and fundraising

 
Jewish Education

  • Identify and reach out to community members to benefit the Jewish community on campus
  • Hold one on one and small groups learning sessions about Judaic text and customs
  • Work with VP of Shabbat and Holidays to integrate Jewish Education into traditional programming

 

Human Rights

  • At UCONN, students are taking an active role in shaping our future by engaging in the international dialogue and facing human rights issues head on. 
  • The Jewish comunity has historically been a strong advocate for human rights. Currently, nonprofit organizations including Mazon, AIPAC, and Save a Child's Heart are empowering Jews around the world to take action against human rights violations. 
  • UCONN is the only Hillel in nation to offer a human rights internstip. This innovative and creative way of reaching students increases peer to peer education and networking.
